Spoon Swirl Challenge

Quickly Growing Grinchy Heart

This soap was the one I made for Greatcakes Soapworks Soap Challenge December, 2014. The challenge was for a "Spoon Swirl/Chopstick Swirl."

I decided to attempt a Spoon Swirl. Here's my adventure...

So, first I decided to choose a fragrance. I fell in love with "Orange Blossom" when it arrived at my house earlier this month...maybe it's where I live in SoCal but oranges of all types are always in season this time of year.

UH-OH.
This fragrance is known to accelerate trace. :(

So I decided to choose another one. I wanted something warm and yummy so I chose Oatmeal, Milk and Honey.

Next up-make the soap!! Decided to soap at very low temperatures for a better swirl.

Then I decided to keep the soap simple with only 2 colors. I have a small gaggle of children (6 total) so this time of year I am often surrounded by Christmas animation in my house. I decided Christmas colors might be fun-but changed it up just a smidge. What came out of my color mixtures was a grass green color and a sort of red-pink.

I scented the green with the OMH and started to make pour.

But something was missing. My heart just REALLY wanted that Orange Blossom in this soap.

So I quick put some in the pink only. HOLY MOLY. that soap set up intensely fast-talk about trace acceleration!! If I had soaped at any higher temp I think the soap would have riced-that's how fast it accelerated.

Luckily I was able to actually GLOP it in the center of the mold with a little green on top.

Swirling it became increasingly difficult-as the pink soap was very thick. (The green soap was beautiful and fluid-so I shall be doing this again with that combo.)

SPOON SWIRL TIME!!!

(tiny hand photobomb....)

I quickly decide to make a decorated top since it didn't look very attractive-it was thick and gloppy where the pink soap was. Then decided to sprinkle a little Pearly White Mica on....

Fast forward 48 hours...

UNMOLDING!!! Very concerned the soap will be awkward or odd.

sigh....air bubbles in the beginning cuts....BUT THEN ~

YAY!!!! The swirls cam out rather nice given the thickness of the soap.

And looking at the colors and swirls as I was cleaning up the soap made me think "Well in Whoville that day....they say...The Grinch's heart grew 3 times that day..." and "Quickly Growing Grinchy Heart" Soap was made!!!

TA-DONE!!!!

(tried to add the Challenge stamp but it wouldn't upload...still a FUN adventure!!)
